Development plans are in motion for a Rural Development Technology Center to be launched as part of an expansion of the Lake Land College Kluthe Center in Effingham, IL. Lake Land College is partnering with area businesses, the county's five school districts, Effingham County Chamber of Commerce, state and local government and various community stakeholders to develop this collaborative space for state-of-the-art career and technical training.

The objective of the center is to create pathways to sustainable employment and supply a highly skilled labor force for east central Illinois employers. The program is being designed to attract high school students as well as incumbent and returning adult workers. The proposed facility is planned to be roughly 36,000 square feet and encompass flexible classrooms, a hands-on lab as well as a much needed wet lab space. Examples of programs could include Manufacturing Skills, Adult Welding and Construction Trades.
